Illinois advocates produce Medicare informational video with sign language translation - chicagotribune.com

A sign-language introduction to Medicare is now available on a federal website thanks to the work of a Chicago-area group of professionals who are deaf or work with people who are deaf.

They cooperated with Medicare officials to produce a video introducing people to the federal health insurance program for people 65 and older. The video is in American Sign Language, with large-type captions and voice narration.

Visitors to the Medicare website can click on "Information in Other Languages" to see the video.

Working on the project were Chicago-area residents Terri Gendel of the Make Medicare Work Coalition and Kris Sadur of Rep. Jan Schakowsky's office. Former Chicago-area resident JulieAnn Chavez translated the script into American Sign Language.
