If Tomorrow Never Comes

If I knew it would be the last time that
I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise.
I would video tape each action and word,
so that I could replay it back day by day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I would spare an extra minute or two
to stop and say "I love you",
instead of assuming, that you know I do.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I would be there to share your day,
but I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can just let this one slip away.

For surely there's a tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything right.

There will always be another day
to say our "I love you's"
and certainly there's another chance
to say our "anything I can do's?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much "I love you"
and hope you never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young and old alike,
and today may be the last chance you get
to hold your loved ones tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day.

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
whisper in their ear,
tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear.

Take the time to say "I'm sorry,"
please forgive me. "Thank you" or "it's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

I like it. Its something we all need to think about.. what happens if there's no tomorrow.. I gotcha. I like the writing though.

Me too, I love to write something that I feel it should be important to realized how short life is and not waste it. :)

I used to do that.. I just haven't done it in years.

Funn, I even try to write a romance novel with a mystery when i was in my 20's making stories for fun. Kind of miss it though, but hard to write long story while I have a small baby take up lot of my time.

Nice poem, GTM. I write mysteries, too, always with a touch of romance. Think about your characters and plot while your baby's asleep and you're working at something dull. Keep a little notebook and scribble down inspirations. Even if it's only a sentence, add it to your story when you can.

Your best story is yet to be written.

aw thanks chase, I try my best and keep your advice in mind. :)

That's very true, my biggest disappoint would be not seeing my family and friends that are not saved by God's grace in heaven :(

I really like it, definitely, its a lot of make sense. Great poem, dude! :thumb:

Real nice! I like it.

I agree, keep a notebook on the side. Important lines here or there may be useful in the near future. That is what I always do, I even bring one with me to work in case I got great ideas or lines. Than to forget what was good inside your head. You even meet or see many different people, you will write about them, their personality, their accents, or whatever-it is great for your POV!!! (Point of Veiw) You don't need a story right away, but later will be good though. I wrote at least two page at a time when my son was a year old during his nap time, then when he doesn't need me anymore-I wrote a novel. Don't give up your dreams in writing. I wrote 8 novels already thus far. Four series for young audience, a memoir, a journal--'Remember this Day' for my son and two horror/suspense. Good Luck!

Very nice!

I guess if tomorrow never comes, that means today is your last day. Lol, nevermind me, just postwhoring, I guess.

If tomorrow never comes, then you got to seize the day! Don't wait to do anything to say " I should have done this or done that. Just do it and you feel great instead of being too late with regret. :)
