I don't know anyone who's totally normal. Everyone has their weird little differences. 
Everyone wants their child to be "cured" from whatever problem might make their path in life more difficult--you can't blame them for that. What parents sometimes miss is that expressing that, when there is no cure, can often make a child feel more isolated and abnormal. And children sometimes feel that anyway--it's just how kids are when they don't fit it. How parents will forgat that, I don't know.
