I was diagnosed with Otosclerosis about 2 yrs ago and have worn 2 hearing aids since, which has made life so much easier. I am borderline moderate to severe deaf and was told last year my hearing had stabilised and would probably not get worse, unless I got pregnant again ( 1 child who is now 2 1/2 was the trigger). I have always been hypermobile in all my joints and thought this just meant I was bendy...how little did I know!! Earlier this year (after 9 years of pushing for a correct diagnosis for a back injury from a car accident) I was informed that I have Hypermobility Syndrome which is a genetic condition related to having crap collagen. I bruise easily, my skin is really stretchy and most of my joints flex the wrong way. My then consultant wondered weather the two were connected but never followed it up and happily discharged me with 2 displaced vertabra and 2 compressed discs (he said neither was bad enough for surgery, but due to the fact that I have 2 he understands the pain can be awful...nice of him lol). I also have below average bone mass and although Osteoporosis test shows I do not have the disease at the moment I do have a high risk of developing it in later life.
For a while now I have been suffering increasing bouts of vertigo and my hearing is starting to deteriorate again. These have worsened dramatically since I flew abroad a couple of weeks ago. About 80% of my day spins!!
Having done more self research I wondered whether anyone has knowledge of osteo imperfecta? I am not convinced of my initial diagnosis of Oto and HSM....or are they connected??
Waffle over....anyone can help??? I will have to wait about 2 to 3 months for an appointment so any advice is much appreciated.
