Police said they arrested a 47-year-old homeless deaf mute man on murder charges after he allegedly beat an unidentified man to death with a brick in a suspected robbery in Long Island City Saturday morning.
William Washington, who lives in a makeshift shelter at the intersection of 47th Road and 12th Street in Long Island City, was arrested and scheduled for arraignment Monday afternoon, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. Washington was arrested on charges of murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years to life in prison, Brown said.
The DA said Washington allegedly beat the victim over the head with a brick, and then allegedly went through the victim's pockets in search of cash.
