Hello Justlook,

You can get your own router, I recommend get Dlink DI-604 router at circuitcity store or compusa, My both favorite store have a extend warranty service to cover repairs for extra cost when you purchasing it just add extra for extend warranty service while you tell cashier "I would like to add extra cost for extend warranty service on my Dlink router". if your router is failing to communications and you can bring the router to store and they will replace it or repair you pay NOTHING it's covered by warranty and extend warranty service. when your VP techie comes in they will help you to configure the router settings. Or we can help you from this AllDeaf.

[Cable wall outlet]-> [Cable modem]-> [Router]-> Computer and VP box.

Most VP should plug in LAN 1 then Computer plug in LAN 2.

what about Linksys WRT54G or wrt54gs? as for good security or firewall?

The LinkSys, I had the LinkSys wireless too much interfarces with my wireless doorbells i decided change to wired, till a few month later router went dead, I am no longer on linksys. I get the Dlink router, it's great stronger and sturdy never dead on me.. Dlink router DI-604 have a firewall build-in..

so, two different program between dlink and linksys for h.124(?). the magzine says the linksys easy to setup in confige than dlink? the di-604 have firewall and better with vp? ill check on that ... by the way happy thanksgiving to ad commuity..

BEST FIREWALL or CLEAR VP on ROUTER

I know one router costs lot but if you are willing and you can spy us all the time you want. Nothing can prevent, for example, while you talk with someone on AIM. You can see their ip address by the router log information. You can order that brand called HOTBRICK. It has WAN2 if you order both DSL and Cable.. its worth to have fancy speed.

Hotbrick, while great because you can use 2 internet connections if you want, isn't a good deal compared at $180-$250 to a $50-$70 plain jane router from D-Link, Linksys, or NetGear. The only thing that would make it worth paying $100 more for is if it had QoS structuring so that people could force their VP calls to have a higher priority over all other internet service like web browsing or file sharing. That way, your VP calls will always be good while your web browsing could slow down or speed up depending on if the VP is in use or not.

Uh, let's clarify this. D-Link routers and Linksys routers have different setup programs. Linksys isn't as friendly or clear as D-Link's router setup, so more people have had more difficulty setting up Linksys routers. D-Link is easier and more straightforward.

Linksys and D-Link have the same quality of firewall.

so, not matter how the router handle whatever i do with vp and web-- either one will slow down than other at same time? even separt or second isp(maybe $5 more) might not made different as one isp even switchers can't control to made it equal speed alike router does? just curious... im using dsl now..

You need to use Window XP pack 2. There have a good protect the firewall. I have my window XP pack 2. It is very important for you. You don't have to worry about another kind of network. Ask cox for help. They will help to explain you. :)

any body know any good deal or cheap for bulk of wire to exectly cut measure on wire? that way i dont have to buy for 25,50 or 100 feet each.. i mean the ethnet wire for router...
