I remmy I had one sparkplug with very thick bottom w/ thread. I removed one from 1920 Ford Model T and used that on my go cart's 8 hp engine that had a stripped sparkplug thread. I made hole bigger and screwed in fat sparkplug and it worked!

Interesting! I remembered that I had installed spark plugs in my 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle and 1975 Chevy Camero. easy to tune up till fuel electronic injection had changed to all cars. I can't tune up it. :(

Lol same here. Lot have changed since Fuel Injection came. The distrubutor point (dwell), Engine timing adjustment, sparkplug gapping are thing of the past. I remmy tuning up 1989 Mazda 323 which have fuel injection but it require engine timing adjustments on distrubutor and gapping sparkplugs. I use pre-gapped platuim sparkplugs (Bosch are what I use on all vehicles). Then I tried to tune up 1995 Chrystler Grand Caravan that had problem with engine dying on idle while on traffic stop (had 98,000 mi on it), I tried to adjust engine timing by twisting distrubutor like I did on Mazda. It won't do anything on timing. It have no Vaccuum that I can plug in with golf tee. I gave up on that cuz the van's computer was stubborn in maintaining timing regardless if distrubutor is twisted far left or right where it stops on it's bolt. It runs smooth and normal no matter if distrubutor set far left or right. Van still dies on idle. I assumed that valve needed to be rebuilt. I traded in for brand new 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport w/ 3.3 liter engine. It was wrecked couple years ago. :lol:

Now, my durango and jeep liberty have same "distrubutorless" system. Each sparkplug jacks have its own coil. Computer controls timing and as usual, I use pre-gapped Bosch sparkplugs. I culd try AC platuim sparkplugs or Champion Platuim.
So my timing gun is obsolete but is useful for old cars if brought up to me to fix.

I remember that my friend tried to tune up fuel injection spark plugs in mid 1990 Cougar then distrubutor and sparkplugs blown down. It s towed to garage shop. Service charged over $1000. WOW.
 
distributorless sparkplugs are expensive to repair that's for sure. Classic distributors are relatively easy to maintain. Today's engine are controlled by computer so it's all without mechanical distributors.
 
Cool, Calvin! My material grandfather kept a lot of old spark plugs (some still in unopened boxes), wooden batteries and some other things in his workshop/storage building and basement. I think my grandmother still have them.

Wow! Why don't you have mini-museum and charge $5 admission to see those antique historicial items. :rofl:
