I'm thinking that $100, $50, and $20 bills are usually in better condition than $10, $5, and $1 bills. My theory is that most of the purchases are small purchases. People don't always make big purchases because of budget concerns. They make small purchases to save money for future. Therefore, $1, $5, and $10 bills change hands more often than bigger bills. Even if they use $20 bills to make a $3 purchase, they will get $1, $5, and $10 bills back in change. So you give $20 bill, you will get a lot of smaller bills in change. Care to agree or disagree?

People use their credit cards when they're buying a high price item. And yes people do not carry $100 bills a lot and I ever seen anyone get back change in $100 bills but I did see someone with a $100 bill the other day paying for something.

If I buy anything much over $20 I use my debit card. Canada has $1 and $2 coins but you're right that the fives and tens are always looking a bit tattered compared to twenties.
