Hello, my name is Agnes. I joined this community because I got interested in sign language recently. I try to study it, it is fascinating. Currently I use some materials for ASL but I think about moving either to England or Scotland so is there any point in studying ASL if British version is different? How different they are? Will I be understood if I try to communicate? Best wishes to everyone
I think it would be good to learn ASL even if you do plan to move, but that's just my opinion. There are many people around the world that know ASL.
Are you studying signing on your own or going to school? Also, did you meet another individual that you saw signing, so it piqued your interest to learn?
to AllDeaf forum. I don't know where you are from originally. If you are planning on going to England or Scotland, then I think they sign BSL (British Sign Language). If you are from North America, then you sign ASL (American Sign Language). ASL is different than BSL.
I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. See you around here.
I try to learn by myself. I borrowed this book "Signing for Dummies" , I do not think it's a really good start ))), I found a course on-line and some really nice ( in my opinion) self-study DVD. I have always wanted to learn signing but I just couldn't gather myself to do that (laziness) Was there anyone who inspired me? I think yes, it was actress Shoshannah Stern in "Jericho".
