I am a hearing ASL student, and have often stumbled across this forum while researching topics on the Deaf community. Even though I am sure I do not have much to contribute (at least not yet), I thought it would be nice to join in on some discussions that are of particular interest to me.
I first became interested in ASL while researching for a novel, of all things. I learned fingerspelling and a few relevant words for the scene in question and didn't go much further. Then, I met and became good friend with a deaf family, and suddenly felt much more motivated to actually learn signing!
Since I started taking classes about a year ago, I have met so many people--deaf, HoH, and hearing--in the local community who sign, and I hope to meet many more! ^_^
