Hi Everyone , I am New to Alldeaf

Hi my name is mike and i am 25 years old , I am Deaf and hard of hearing, I have been deaf and Hard of Hearing since i was 12 years old, I have sensorineural hearing loss in both ears, severe in the right and moderate in the left. I was wondering , do I belong in the deaf community?. Also should I use sign language as my Primary language if I can hear some in my good ear? I wear Bte hearing aids on both ears. The audiologist thinks that my hearing is stable. My mom knows very little about sign language. Should I encourage my family to learn how to sign also. I can finger spell and sign Pretty good I think for an intermediate signer . Are there any D/deaf communities in my area of zipcode 12010?

Hi Mike, I would say it is fun to learn sign language and gives you options rather than be tied to a hearing world. Of course it comes down to what works for you, but if you and your family are in agreement anything is possible.

My opinion, if you enjoy signing and it's easier for you to understand, then I would think for it to be your Primary language.
As far as the socialization in your area I suggest checking online?
DeafSpot: deaf news, deaf events, deaf blogs, deaf dating, deaf community, relay call, deaf travel, deaf pagers, deaf shopping, deaf chat Maybe find info on there?
