Help Your Firm Reach 9million Deaf Customers (from Your Local Guardian)
You may not think your business needs deaf awareness training but it will soon be a legal requirement for many receptionists, shop assistants, supervisors and managers.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act anyone who comes into contact with deaf and hard of hearing people as a main part of their job will need to be able to communicate easily with them.
Free training is being offered in Kingston in the run up to the introduction.
Orpington College, Hands on Access and the RNID, have joined forces to provide training in six London boroughs, leading to the British Sign Language (BSL) level one qualification.
RNID director Cheryl Cullen said: "Through receiving this training and the opportunity to do BSL level one, businesses can make sure they are not inadvertently closing the door to the nine million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK, which represents a huge consumer population." The one-day courses will run in December.
