Hundreds of jobs are immediately available to help Utah’s deaf population.
Interpreter Lab Coordinator Anita Nelson says right now there are 200 certified Utahn's who can sign for Utah’s deaf population. She says 300 more are needed and would be offered work immediately. “There wouldn’t be 300 people competing for one position. They could easily be working today so there is definitely a need. We could easily use 300 more today and get them some good jobs.”
An interpreter lab has reopened bigger and better in Taylorsville. “The purpose of the lab is because there is such a need of qualified interpreters out there that we needed to have an opportunity for them to have a place to increase their skills,” Nelson says.
Nelson says people are needed to help with jobs, interviews, and especially in schools. Utah schools have the largest demand for and the lowest number of people to sign for students.
