I'm a third year college student. While I've experienced some hearing difficulties since my late teens, I've only recently been diagnosed with mild/moderate loss and fitted with a hearing aid. My boyfriend, who is hearing but has a Deaf family member, suggested learning ASL and we'll be taking our first class together next semester. Although my hearing loss isn't too bad, and I can get by without my aid if necessary, I look forward to learning to communicate visually for situations where background noise is a problem. In the meantime, I'm using the Bill Vicars tutorials to familiarize myself with the language.

Hi :welcome:

I was the same and as my hearing got worse I found I was comfortable in the deaf world because I knew Auslan (Aussi ASL).

I have no idea who Bill Vicars is, I'm too lazy too google it too. :)

Hey, welcome :)

I too enjoy Vicars' site. If I'm stumped on something I research on there a while and learn more and more. :giggle:

Hope you enjoy this site as well.
