You would have to have a tiny loss for Esteem implantable to do any good.

So, in the clinical trial, patients averaged an 11 decibel improvement in Speech Reception Threshold (SRT) scores beyond their hearing aids. At a quiet conversation level, average patient speech understanding improved by more than 45% over their hearing aids.

11 db more that HA. Why bother?

slight loss big surgery

That was my concern, Read the trial requirements and thought it was a lot of skull cracking surgery for a non life threatening condition. I can only guess that CI is worth the risk to gain an entire sense, but that much surgery over the use/cost of some HAs?

Is the cosmetic factor that big of a deal? I haven't suffered too much "stigma" over the last 6 years. Maybe I am too old and married for it to matter?

A CI certainly provides a much better gain in db.
