Anybody going to buy both formats? Even I am going to buy both formats, I am still going to buy the regular DVDs

lol funny Sony and Microsoft are trying new formats to increase attention to the audience...

Sony will be using the blu-ray drive for the PS3 while Microsoft will use the HD-DVD add on for the Xbox360 in this later year.

But if you ask for my opinon, I think it would proably be the HD-DVD that wins since most people are already so familiar with DVD but with Blu-ray? it's still too new and proably won't be heard from many for awhile...even my brother hasn't heard of blu-ray before either.

It's like betamax versus VHS all over again and who won? obviously it was VHS.

M$ and Sony are really going head-to-head with consoles and discs. I think it will be Blu-Ray who will come out as the winner soleley because the PS3 will play Blu-Ray discs. It also may come down to which format has the cheaper standalone player. I think HD-DVD players will come out around $400 or $800, and Blu-Ray's cheapest player supposedly will run $1200.
Since I have no real interest in buying a XBOX360, and a interest in buying a PS3, I'll admit I am biased when I say Blu-Ray for the win.

That waste alot of money... I'm no longer to love with Microsoft anymore.

Whoever wins the battle. It is still win and win situition for me. I have 360 and plan to purchase ps3 too. PS3 does have blu-ray and 360 doesnt but ms is planning to sell hd dvd drive for 360 too. they are cheaper than getting both players.

have u noticed that terminator is hd-dvd but terminator 2 is blu-ray. That's fucked up. lol

It is not fucked up because Terminator and Terminator 2 are from different companies

HOLD ON.. don't rush buy HD-DVD or Blu-ray. Not until you have HD-TV. Since that HD-DVD or Blu-ray are design compatible for HD-TV that show better resolution which why it able hold enough bytes.

For example, you load regular DVD and see HD-DVD, it show little blur or mosaic. Why? Not enough resolution as it auto stretch and it look not great. DVD look great on standard TV than VHS does.

That's why there is HD-DVD or blu-ray for HD-TV owner to see beautiful resolution, frame by frame.

VHS: 352 x 240
DVD: 720 × 480
HD-DVD/Blu-Ray: 1920 × 1080

Well I dont have a HDTV, but have a 20' flat tube TV with AV inputs and S-video, etc...and if I get a HD-DVD drive for my Xbox360 and play HD-DVDs on it, would it still look okay or naw? It sounds like I have to get an HDTV before I can get the HD-DVD drive for my Xbox360 and alot of HDTVs are pretty expensive.

You can buy for cheap at Target.

I recently learned that HD DVD players will be backwards compatible witth regular DVDs, and Blu-Ray players will not be. BUT DVDs should be playable on the PS3 since the PS3 will be backwards compatible with PS2 games.

That's what I meant. One company signed with HD-DVD and other company signed with Blue-Ray
