Hawaii Center for deaf and blind gets $1.7 million - The Honolulu Advertiser - Hawaii's Newspaper
Governor Linda Lingle released $1,723,000 yesterday for renovations at the Hawai'i Center for the Deaf and Blind to meet accessibility guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Corrective measures include adding walkways, ramps, parking stalls and other modifications to campus buildings' interiors and exteriors, a news release from the Governor's office stated.
Hawai'i Center for the Deaf and Blind provides educational programs and services for students ages 3 through 20 who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind or partially sighted, or who have multiple disabilities. Located on Le¯'ahi Avenue in Honolulu, the school provides services both on-site and at other public schools in Hawai'i. On-campus boarding is available for students from the neighbor islands.
Design for the project is scheduled to begin in February and be completed in August 2008. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2009 and be completed in September 2009.
