The Stanford Development Company Contributions Committee (SDCCC) has once again come to the assistance of organisations and institutions by providing meaningful assistance towards achieving their goals.

Latest organisation to benefit is Hands That Speak, founded in 2001 to address and administer to the special needs of the deaf and the hearing impaired in Antigua & Barbuda. Through its ministry, members seek to bring the hearing population into “The World of the Hearing Impaired” by creating and becoming that bridge of communication.

The SDCCC has donated $10,000 to the group towards the purchase of Teletypewriters or TTYs. These are devices that allow the deaf and hearing impaired to type back and forth using regular telephone lines.

Hands That Speak President Denise George received the cheque on behalf of the organisation at a presentation ceremony recently held at the offices of the Stanford Development Company (SDC).

Donations were also made to the St. George’s Anglican Church, D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Health, Hope & HIV Foundation, Antigua & Barbuda Pensioners Association, AIDS Day Red Ribbon Awareness and the Sir Vivian Richards Foundation, totalling EC$22,000.

Sam Adolphine, the new SDCCC Chairman said, “Although we would like to help all groups and individuals requesting our assistance, I am sure you will understand this is impossible. Therefore, the committee relies on its guidelines to assist in making the right decisions and after careful reviews of the many applications received, a decision is made.”

The SDCCC stands firm and committed to its involvement to community development.
