For the past four years i've been helping children in the tristate. But everyonce in a while, like this time i get to do a little international work.

Not long ago i received a help request from mike johnson, a teacher at summit country day school mike said he and his wife were trying to get their daughter out of china. When they came to channel nine mike's wife denise said,

"She is in an orphanage in Shang Dao Province in China and she was abandoned at the orphanage gate."

When Denise and Mike saw these photos they fell in love with the two year old and decided to adopt Guan YI. And when they found out Guan YI was deaf, it changed nothing. Mike said,

"We live five minutes from St. Rita's School for the deaf Denise has taken sign language...And so when we saw she was deaf we thought you know this makes sense we've got a lot of resources available and again that special needs label didn't have to scare us."

It sounds like Guan YI is going to have lots of love and attention. But on a teacher's salary, with three kids, there's no extra money. Mike said, "It's going to cost us somewhere around 18,000.00 dollars when it's all said and done." To get Guan YI from China into our front door."

That's why they're having Christmas in July at the Holmes gym on the main campus of Summit Country Day

It's a party and silent auction to bring Guan YI home. They'll have valet parking and on- sight baby-sitting along with one hundred items up for auction.

If you can't make it to the party but want to help you can call 852 4971 to donate by check.
