If you’re deaf and needing home health care, chances are you’re not going to find someone who can communicate well with you.

But thanks to $160,000 in state and local grants, people who know sign language will be trained to become certified home health aides.

The program is being launched by Unity at Home and will target home care for the deaf, giving them the same kind of in-home assistance as their hearing counterparts have had for years.

A program coordinator fluent in American Sign Language will be hired to do outreach with potential deaf clients and assist them in receiving services.

For more information how to become an aide or to receive services, contact Unity Health System at (585) 368-6404 (voice).
