Good Riddance Seattle Sonics!

That news is not old....it's OFFICAL news, and it's FINAL.

I know nothing about the inner workings of the Sonics organization but over the years, I have read that the Pacific Northwest was/is a "small tv market", whatever that really means and that is why the organization is having trouble like attendance and some other stuff I can't recall....

Why is it the "Utah Jazz"? Ain't no birthplace for jazz in Salt Lake City! WTF? Franchise politics . . . no sportsmanship there. Therefore, nothing doing.

The "Jazz" orginated in New Orleans and moved to Utah in the 80's. I think Jazz has to do with sparkly thing, not sure.

It stands for the jazz music genre of New Orleans and when they moved to Utah, they just kept the name....

When the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore, the team was, promptly, renamed to something more suitable for the local flavor.

Utah Jazz?!?!?!?!?

I know why it happened. I just don't know why it happened!

That's sad to see Sonic left from Seattle.
That's odd to see Okla City will have first NBA. They do not have NFL, NHL and ML.

Few times, I watched Sonic vs Bullets NBA Championship at Kingdome.
Once, I watched 76ers at Portland for NBA Championship

Well the thing is the Seattle SuperSonics will still be there in Seattle..in name only.. the team cant bring that SuperSonics name to Oklahoma City and I read an article where the team history and nickname and colors will stay in Seattle for either an expansion team or relocated team once there is a new basketball arena to be built that will fit well for a basketball team to come there.... so it might be 5 to 10 years till Seattle is back in the NBA...the team that is going to Oklahoma City will have a new history and etc but not entirely sure if it will be the case..that will be mentioned in the weeks to come...

Have to point this out... the orginal Cleveland Browns, when they were moving to Baltimore in 1995, the NFL had made sure the Browns name and team history and etc would stay in Cleveland for an expansion or relocated team, which happened with the second version of the Cleveland Browns.. the original team that moved to Baltimore was more of an estabished "expansion" team and was competitive somehow fast..

There are many other teams throughout professional sports where the team name is irrelevant to the region its located in. IE (New Orleans-hornets) So Jazz should change name with New Orleans to accomidate those who are culturally challanged?

True, hohDougRN... for example the Los Angeles Lakers.. they orginially were the Minneapolis Lakers from Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes and when the Lakers moved out west to LA, that nickname was brought with them but didnt have anything to do with lakes near LA or so...as for the Utah Jazz... oh yeah... same can be said for the New Orleans Hornets too...
