Gogoi extends helping hand to deaf and mute students

The Assam government has decided to provide ''all facilites'', including the necessary tools to deaf and mute schools of the state, besides supplying free books to students upto the twelfth standard, according to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Addressing a gathering at the 48th International Deaf and Dumb Day here yesterday, he also announced free hostel facilities for deaf and mute students.

Mr Gogoi directed the social welfare department to submit a proposal of Rs ten crores for the welfare and rehabilitation of the deaf and mute students of the state.

The state government has reserved three per cent of the government jobs for the deaf and mute, he disclosed.
