Hi, Im new to the forum and haven't even thought much about deafness until recently so please excuse any ignorance.
Recently I fell in love with 3 deaf girls (ages 17, 15, 11) during a visit to Paraguay. There are awesome girls but, due to poverty, they dont have any chances for special education or any help. Even without help, they have done pretty well for themselves considering the circumstances. They have created their own form of sign language that not even the parents speak, they all work in a bakery to help the family, and they are really fun to be around.
Im going back to Paraguay around Christmas and was wanting to take them gifts and hopefully once I get out of college I can really help them out with hearing aids or something of the sort.
I know that they can hear loud and deep noises like an airplane going by overhead so I was wondering if there is a special headphone or if headphones turned really loud would work. They were tested when they were really little and the doctors said that they could hear with hearing aids but its financially out of their reach.
Would the girls be able to hear music or would they not be able to enjoy it?
Are there any other gift ideas?
