Skyline Country Club went Down Under Saturday with Lariats and Lace, a gala and fundraiser benefiting the Arizona Blind and Deaf Children's Foundation Inc.
The Australian-themed event happened in grand fashion at the country club, 5200 E. Saint Andrews Drive, as about $100,000 was raised to help deaf children and blind children in Arizona.

"Like every non-profit, we've been challenged," said Rita Weatherholt, executive director. "But the people came through."

Money raised by the gala — the bigger of two primary fundraisers held by the foundation each year — supports art, fitness and literacy programs, as well as the "success for life" program, designed to help young people make the transition into young adulthood, Weatherholt said. The silent auction was followed by a live auction and presentation of awards. Among those honored were the top teachers: Barbara Awerkamp, Michelle Maher, Theresa Court and Ed Waller. The Golden Stirrup Teacher Award went to Ken Ball.
Sundt Construction received the White Hat Award.
