Guys, help...planning to prepare dinner for someone special this weekend. But not a good cook... '( Shall i go for frozen food items instead? They are easy to prepare and I guess a good way to impress too.. what do you think? :hmm:

LOL what is wrong with pasta, sauce jar, italian with butter and garlic and sprinkles of paramese cheese along the good drinks.

Look in amount of salt content in frozen food. Your jaw will drop and think twice.

actually frozen veges are better than fresh veges because all its nutriments are 'fastened' frozen intact into the vege like it wont fade of its vitamins/mineral strengths.. yes its faster to cook too as less chopping since its all done...
nothing wrong with sauce jar, sprinkling parmesian cheese is clever too, (i do that occassionally as well) making own sauce is a bonus especially for thos elong cooking with 'left overs' which you can use to make sauce, whereas in the quick cooking you dont have this oppurtunity there as it takes a long time to make sauce from scratch on its own...again nothing wrong with it....
the main thing though is, so long as you match/ or mix in the right composition with the rest of the food you're making/presenting... then like as long as that, its 'perfect'

italian food or mexican foods or asian food all famous for 'spicy type sauces' of certain variety which provides a good 'cheat' way to make excellent quick meals that would look like it took a long time to cook....

good luck

Vegetables, thats different. Im speaking for entrees, their salt content is way too much. Single serving entree can have as much as 1200 grams of salt. Yike!

as for diehardbiker...try get unsalted...

My advice is to go to either a Wholefoods or the supermarket and get one rotisserie chicken, still warm and some canned veggies like corn which you only have to heat up. Go on the internet and watch a vid on how to carve the chicken, carefully. I'd also go to Trader Joe's wine store and tell them you want something to go with rotisserie chicken. If you want to get more involved, the supermarket will steam a lobster for you then you can buy some canned corn and nuke a baked potato for a lobster bake. Problem solved...

Honestly, real cooking is easy and not too technical, just a little more work.

P.S. If you've got a date, candles are also a nice option... But, don't forget to ask her what type of wine she likes. Just because it goes with the meal does NOT mean she will like it, keep plenty of alcohol on hand.

I think the rotisserie chicken from supermarkets are horrible! It really is not that hard to cook a nice roast chicken and made a nice salad and bake potatoes. The dessert should be easy as there area lot pies out for the holidays.

I'm telling you, while I don't eat them all the time because of the fat, (at least where I am) they are really very good. And, for a date when you don't know how to cook it's a God send.

Look, you can't teach someone how to cook this quick, too many variables, not gonna happen. Basic things have to be learned first and there is a lot on the line with a date (if it is a first one). You can slide by with just ordering in pizza with some women, but not all of them.

One other thing OP: Two word, dietary restrictions.

Make sure you ask the woman if she is allergic to anything.

All frozen entrees are garbage, but frozen vegetables and rolls are good.

I prefer to cook the food than heat the stupid frozen entree.

Yike, only early young adult (18-21) and teenagers won't care about amount of salt.

Be yourself -- take that person out to a good restaurant instead, or get pick-up food.
Don't feel pressured to cook when it isn't your personality.

I remember about I had high blood pressure after ate frozen food everyday for 1 week so it is due to MSG so I quitted after my doctor found out.

Then I would take the person out for dinner , I really do not see how it hard to roast a chicken , there are a lot utubes on line that tell you how to do this.

Apparently, the OP needs a meal at home. I'm guessing, she probably has given him more than a few and he needs to reciprocate.

spaghetti is easy to cook , you only have to boil some water in a big pot and buy some good sauce and you can buy garlic bread all ready to bake . Get a nice bottle of wine and buy a nice pie or whatever at a bakery and have that with coffee or tea. A simple salad would be nice with the meal or buy some fancy frozen veggies . Maybe the OP and guest could cook the meal together
and if comes out bad they laugh about it then go out to eat!

not to mention its cheap too. Throw in a few meatballs from frozen section helps. A buck or less for spaghetti, a buck for can of sauce. a bag of meatballs for 10 bucks and last about 5-8 meals depending on how many you eat. Lets see about 3 bucks a meals and you are full. I usually take the sauce leftovers and freeze it in a plastic container. After each spaghetti meal - I save leftover sauce and pour in same container until I have enough for one meal. You cant get any cheaper/healthier then this for a family of 4-5.

Add potato, it will reduce the sodium on the cooked frozen entree.

I would rather to get freeze-dry meal. They last much longer and no need use fridge at all. Just add hot water and cook. Ta-da.
