Was watching a brief glimpse of FOX's plastic surgery/beauty pageant reality show "The Swan" this evening. One of the new contestants is deaf. Here's a description of her (to air next Monday, November 1):

Gina D
Age: 38
Hometown: Daytona Beach, FL
Medical Auditor

Gina is a 38 year old mother of 1 and a medical auditor. Gina lost most of her hearing at the age of 3 due to an infection. She is carrying the pain of being teased in high school for her disability. She also wants to see herself and her disability in a new, more positive light, so she can feel comfortable in her own skin and in front of her husband.

I was watching it last night. I was going to post a thread about the deaf girl being on Swan next week.

Im looking forward to watch it next week. :)
 
LOL, I saw it all. I think some of the women have too much boobs! Such as Cindy and the black lady last night. Damn, it just makes them look bigger above than below. But! They are pretty :D.

Don't forget next week! Damn, how many of you have been tortured because of your hearing loss? I never was, but I know people talked a bit behind my back and when they thought I couldn't lip read. Jeez! LOL One tried to insult me, and I insulted her glasses. Bytch!
 
When I was in elementary and middle school. I had some hearing students making fun of me. I was in hearing mainstream classes and they made fun of me. And there was a boy in elementary who I really hate, he always made fun of fun of me and I talked back and we almost got into a fight. My deaf teacher caught us fighting and got the boy in trouble.PFT :nana: at that boy!
 
Just wanted to bump this up that this is Tonight November 1st! Don't forget the hearing impaired lady.

While were on the subject, any other shows or movie recommendations that feature Deaf folks. I vaguely recall a show a few years ago but for the life of me, I can't remember the name. It was some time back in the 80s and the daughter in the family was Deaf. It was a regular show that was on for several years (Family?)
 
I saw The Swan. Gina Davis entered the pageant, so she'll be competing when all of the ladies are done with the makeovers! I hope she wins. It's possible!! I think that Gina wanted to get a cochlear implant, but the doctor said something about having too much of a profound loss or something which makes no sense. He just wanted her to try hearing aids. It seems like maybe she didn't wear hearing aids for a long time. I missed some of the beginning, so who knows what else I missed about her, but she looked gorgeous! She loves her hearing aids and it's made a big difference in her.

Oh and one of The Swan competitor from season 1 was an interpreter of deaf parents and she was part of the pageant too. The Swan surprised Gina with Marlene (the season 1 competitor) and they chatted away in sign language lol.

I am surprised people did not respond to this, but did to the Home Edition Makeover. I wonder if this is due to the fact that she seeked out the cochlear implant for herself and had a "bad" attitude to her deafness..ahem disability.
 
What date is the next Swan show? On which evening? I don't watch much tv but am interested to watch Swan show.
 
It's every Monday at 9 ET. The deaf lady was last week, but when all the ladies are done, there will be a pageant, and she'll be in it competing :D.
