Afteir being deaf since age 14, and having so many problems with my ears (infections, and pain, tennitus and musical tennitus, migranine headaches...the list goes on and on)....... I saw "another" doctor today.....

How much $$ has been spent on my ears over the years?....Unbelievable!

This doctor was at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. She told me something that "no other doctor" has ever said to me.....After 1 visit!....

She said that since I had so many surgeries, that my ears were unable to "clean" themselves of wax, etc., and I would have to come in every 4-6 months to have it done......hence: the reason for so many painful infections!

She cleaned out my ears, and it was somewhat painful...gave me antibotics, and something for my sinus infection, which I suffer a lot too.

All the other "doctors" whom I've seen just took a look at my ears, saying they wanted a "culture and perhaps an MRI"....others just gave me some ear drops, some gave me a prescription for migraine headaches, saying I was perhaps under a lot of stress.....and kept scheduling more and more appts.

It makes me so angry that some doctors just want the "buck"! They know (or should know) what to do for me, but keep "stringing me along".

My head feels so much better! After taking a small nap this evening, I woke up to a little drainage from both ears, but was mainly water-looking.....no pain!

I go back in 4 months for a checkup....and no more surgeries are required for me. It took "just 1 visit" with this specialist.....in all these years to find relief.

Sorry about the rant....but if there are any other deafies who suffer from this perhaps this will help. Have ur ears cleaned and drained every 4-6 months if you've had multiple surgeries. Might save you a lot of pain, $$ and aggravation.

That is so unfair! It is another reason why I am glad that my doctors are government employees with a flat salary.

Good to hear that you are now finding success with your new doctor!

I know exactly what you mean. This past Wednesday, I went to a new retinal specialist. He said that I don't have retinal degeneration (will go blind) but I have Rubella Retinopathy (will not go blind). I would love it if he is right but why few other RSs back in Michigan were telling me that I do have retinal degeneration. I wonder if I could have both Rubella Retinopathy and retinal degeration. I am asking around to find a RS that knows alot about Rubella Retinopathy. Will talk to someone who is involved with Deaf/Blind soon. All that $$ I paid to have some tests, doc. visits, etc.

I don't need those incompetent doctors!

Buffalo, please check out

Dr. Coleman Driver
3005 Green Meadow Drive,
San Angelo, TX 76904
325-942-9300

One of the most acclaimed retinologists. He is here to build his retirement. He founded many schools and taught as well as pioneered new medicines and technology. No joke.

Oh, man, yeah. I went for years with a known growing cholesteatoma before a Nurse Practioner saw it using a scope and got me a very good doctor who fixed it. The good doc also called the incompetent docs and gave them a stern lecture. The good doc also did as you described every 6 months after the surgery. She is gone now. I am sad. Its back to the pool for me with local ent docs. Sigh.

I perfectly understand your rant! You have every right to be pissed ;) Usually when I feel like there's something serious going on I always check up with several doctors... Too bad all of the doctors you went to never told you what you were suffering of.

I am just glad the buzzing in my right ear is gone; it was only due to stress. Hearing test came back rather positive. Right ear hearing is a little bit going down so we're keeping an eye on this within the next 6 months / 1 year.
