Florida PSC rebidding deaf phone service contract - Florida Wires - MiamiHerald.com
The Public Service Commission is rebidding a contract on telephone service for nearly three million hard of hearing, deaf and speech-impaired Floridians.
The panel on Tuesday approved revisions in the three-year contract proposal that include a bit more focus on cost and less on service.
It also agreed to give bidders who include an in-state call center a 100-point bonus on a 3,025-point evaluation scale.
Previous bid specifications called for quality of service to count 60 percent and cost 40 percent.
The revised request for proposals has a 50-50 split.
The Florida Relay System uses special equipment and operators to facilitate calls for people with hearing loss or speech disabilities.
The current contract with Sprint Communications Co. expires in May.
