Feds can take Social Security.......

He shoulda read the loan policy: The loan has to be repaid!!! He should of thought of applying for GRANTS only which doesn't have to be repaid! Some people would get the loans while in college and then default the loans after graduation. It's NO excuse for him to try to explain that he needs the social security benefits to pay for rent and food. He didn't think it in his head about the loan.

a loan has to be paid back, the fact that he has become disabled dose come into factor only if he went in to defult because he became disabled. he get more then i do a month (right now nothing) but he has to pay it off. if that 33 billian gets paid back it will help all of us in the future, defulted loans ar part of the reason that taxes are messed up in NYS.

Well, problem with student loans is that they were "Guaranteed" to begin with. Anybody, even with rotten credit rating CAN get student loans. That is because it was guaranteed approval at rate of 100%. So, in exchange for guarantees, one MUST re-pay REGARDLESS OF SH*T HAPPENS! With one exception and that is DEATH. Whats more, bankruptcy law will NOT allow debts write off on these student loan so, back to bottom line, it is guaranteed loan to start with anyway. In other words, 100% guaranteed approval of student loan to start with, and 100% guaranteed re-payment to end with.

I really don't know which student loans he started with. Sometimes Direct-loan that is run by government agencies can waive the remaining debts if have good reason why not have to pay back. If he didn't try options, then too bad.

Well, maybe he DID tried to get grants. Nowadays grants availablity is getting smaller and smaller, and that tuition cost has climbed considerable amount to make it even more expensive than ever, therefore forcing more student paying out of their pockets. So, I really can't be judgement on that part. As of right now there is *NO* grants that would cover ALL of tuition expenses in New Yawk state! But for deafies, and other severe disabled they are even more luckier, but don't bank on expecting that deafies/disabled will not pay a penny.
