BBC NEWS | UK | England | Devon | Fears raised over lost deaf dog

Fears have been raised over the safety of a lost deaf dog thought to have been trapped on a cliff ledge in east Devon for two weeks.

Ben, a Yorkshire terrier, was reported missing from his home in Seaton to the RSPCA on 19 November.

Workers at Axe Cliff Golf Course have heard barking near the cliff ledge and have thrown scraps of food down to him.

Rescue attempts by the RSPCA have so far been unsuccessful as officers cannot find Ben's exact location.

RSPCA Spokesperson Julie Stainton said: "Since we don't know where the dog was, it is possible it has moved on and might be found in another area.

"We are asking people to inform us if they hear a dog barking in the area or find any signs that the dog may be there."

The golf club's proprietor, David Quinn, said it was hard to imagine Ben surviving last night's stormy weather.

"Friday was the last time we heard it barking.

"My head green keeper - who's been throwing it food for the last week and a half - was out there this morning from six o'clock and unfortunately we haven't heard anything this morning.

"We are fearing the worst because the weather was particularly bad last night."
