Face-lift for school for the deaf - Doncaster Today
Doncaster's historic Deaf Trust has undergone a much-needed transformation thanks to an energy grant from the Learning Skills Council.
For almost 180 years the building on Leger Way has been home to a school and more recently a school and college for deaf children and young people from across the UK.
Now thanks to special funding from the Learning Skills Council the building has
undergone an external refurbishment to upgrade all its windows making the building more suitable for today's needs.
The work comes following a Carbon Trust assessment the magnificent building has also been sandblasted and repointed.
Bobbie Roberts, Chair of Trustees, said: "We are extremely grateful to the Learning Skills Council for enabling us to refurbish the exterior of the building.
"This work has needed doing for sometime and will enable us to offer our staff and students more suitable facilities with new windows which meet all of the current guidelines.
"People often drive past our beautiful building and are unaware of what happens behind the grand exterior. We provide specialist education for deaf babies, children, young people, and adults, often providing residential care as well as day care. Providing this service in the best possible setting is so important to us.
"AM Profiles of Chesterfield who undertook the work have done a fabulous job and we are now looking forward to a bright new school term."
