My name is Michelle Cortese, I'm a graphic design major currently working on a bachelor thesis. My thesis initiative is to rethink content communication in film captioning. I am focused on creating graphic/typographic solutions for film captions that are visually stimulating and do not allow any integral content to be left behind.

But, in order to see my goal come to fruition I need your help! I need individuals that are interested in filling out a questionnaire and/or being part of a test audience for my captioning experiments. I promise that being part of my test audience will be fun and interesting, AND you can be part of the group from your computer at home. If you're interested let me know here or send me an email at mcortese_@hotmail.com

Who knows, we might change captioning forever!!

And for anyone that would only like to fill out my questionnaire, here it is:

How many times per month do you attend a filmscreening at at movie theater? Why?

On a scale from 1 to 10 — 1 being extremely disatisfied, and 10 extremely satisfied — how satisfied are you with the facilities (Rear Window, etc.)
that the theater provides for the hearing impaired? Why?

If you could change any characteristics (name up to five) of the movie-going experience to increase accessibility for the hearing impaired what would you change?

How many films do you watch outside of a movie theater (at your home, a friend’s home, etc.) per month? Why?

On a scale from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the captioning options that DVDs offer? Why?

Would you choose to add or subtract any options? If so, which?

How much television do you watch per week?

On a scale from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with Line 21 (television) closed captioning? Why?

If you could change any characteristics (name up to five) of the current Line 21 model for television closed captioning, what would you change?

Since its inception in the 1970s, do you feel that closed captioning (in film and television) has evolved to suit the needs of its consumers? On a scale from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the evolution of closed captioning?

Are you adverse to the idea of other graphic elements (e.g. colour, animated shapes,
etc.) being employed inside or outside of the captions to convey content?

Based on your own personal needs, what sort of elements (graphic or not) would you like to see employed to enhance captioning?

Thank you :)
