EEOC: Wis. comp. discriminated against deaf worker - Forbes.com

A federal workplace agency is accusing an Oshkosh catalog company of discriminating against a deaf worker.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Monday it has filed a lawsuit against Miles Kimball Co.

The EEOC says the deaf woman was working for the company in 2007 when she was assigned to use a new software program. The woman says she asked that her training be in sign language but was turned down. She says she was fired the following year, after 13 years with the company.

The EEOC's lawsuit filed last week seeks lost wages and damages.

A message left with the company Monday was not immediately returned.

Miles Kimball is a direct marketer of consumer gifts and household products. The EEOC says the company has 1,300 employees.
