I'm less than 275 mi from that to the west. A concern of mine includes the storage of radioactive waste in the area. I was going to say, "When that gets out, it's over. I'm out of here." Too late. It's confirmed that radium levels at Bayou Corne's sinkhole are roughly 15 times higher than the state's acceptable level. Whoops. This is only 50 mi to the west of New Orleans.
I have to consider where I want to go, as it's not just the pollution concerns, but possible similar effects off the coast of Galveston (I have no idea, as I haven't researched this yet), and what happens when the people have to evacuate here. We already went through this with the criminal elements when they escaped from Hurricane Katrina.
I have been looking into getting out of Houston without this as a consideration anyway. The OP is probably posting this because word hasn't gotten out very much. In the distant past, relatively innocuous natural and environmental disasters have caused abandonment of entire towns and villages, which we find through excavation campaigns these days. This, combined with the earthquakes, entire swaths of land collapsing downward, and explosions of flammable gases stored underground and aboveground as well would make for what the Christians call hell-fire. I had completely forgotten about the sinkhole event in 1980, and I wasn't aware of this one that's underway right now.
