Which would you choose if you're going to be living in your apartment by yourself (I'm with my family right now)?

Besides mentioning "it depends," I would like to hear your opinion.

For me I'd choose Verizon Online DSL, because when I sign up, I'd choose MSN Premium (and please no bashing about Microsoft). The reason I choose MSN Premium is I get MSN Money Plus, MSN Encarta Premium, etc. so I don't have to buy those products seperately. Other than MSN Premium I'd like to have, for $29 I'd get a DSL modem with a router built-in, thanks to the firewall support built-in including NAT (Network Address Translator). (If only I could have Verizon One -- that would be nice to have.)

Here's my question that you might want to ask: Would you sacriface 1 Mbps less but have a higher upload speed up to 768 Kbps? What I mean by "sacriface 1 Mbps less" I meant that since Talk America has a speed of 4 Mbps, Verizon Online DSL has a speed of 3 Mbps but you get upload speeds of 768 Kbps over what you get with Talk America which is 384.

The offerings are comprable so perhaps you should go with what fits in your budget. The DL and UL speeds are not much different for what you are doing. Good luck with your decision.

Oh I was just asking for your opinion about the two offerings, that's all. :)

I mean...do you do online gaming or do you build websites?

The modem and firewall/router perform seperate functions. While it's technically possible to combine them, I have not yet seen one.

Hold your horse!

You should check out the Yahoo's DSL service on Verizon's service which offers 19 dollars per month for one-year contract which is only for new customers.

Note: It is a dirty trick - 30 dollar is not included two sub-fees such as tax and another one I don't remember. Overall for the Verizon's fee is about 40 dollars a month.

I called Verizon to close my telephone account after I told my house. I learned that many Verizon employees are from oversea - India. (She told me.) Actually, the DSL is a 3rd party service. I cannot believe that Verizon is so cheap to hire oversea employees. Probably, other telephone companies are doing the same thing.

Man...I hate outsourcing call centers overseas... But I'd prefer e-mail over phone support...

Verizon has a tech support for phone calls only (3rd party service). Unfortuntely, it does not have an email address for a tech support. It takes 15 to 25 minutes on a waiting call.

The worst part of all, it has an automatic voice that gives you a list of numbers for you to select a department. It asks you to give your phone number before you enter one of the depts. It is not quite the same - I mean the auto-voice usually change the sentences once a while which mean that I have to listen the whole message on the phone before I select it. I ask the relay that I want alive person, but sometimes, it is not that simple.

I am actually happy with SBC DSL is now known as ATT HI-SPD INTERNET since JAN 2006... Because I am satisfty with their tech supports solved my once issue and service very well... you better make sure tech support can solve and service as well..

Good luck with your own decision..

Ah... (sigh)

So-- you're saying Verizon isn't deaf-friendly, correct?

Verizon agents are friendly. The only thing that I wanted is a tech support email address. I don't like the phone pauses for 20 minutes, and some relay agents were patience. I would appreciate that Verizon company is out because it is not really own a DSL, but it is with a 3rd party company by contract. It won't reveal who is the 3rd party company. That's why Verizon makes a double profit, and no tech support email address.

I wrote a post somewhere on the forum about Japan's internet service providers. It cost 5 dollars per month with a fastest modem in the world. America's ISPs is a big rip-off and sort of slow modem. It used to be free ISPs, and they copied the idea into the business by making profit. That's how everything is changed.
