The furor over the decision to allow a UAE-owned company to operate six American ports is still a grave concern. Why? At least two of the 19 hijackers that brought down the World Trade Towers on 9/11 were from the United Arab Emirates.

The UAE was one of three countries to institute diplomatic relations with the Taliban in Afghanistan. The 9/11 Commission report outlined a planned strike against Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan; the U.S. missile strike was cancelled because bin Laden was hunting with a group of princes from the UAE.

Banks in the UAE are a means of financing terrorism, both before and after 9/11. It has failed to cooperate with U.S. investigators who are trying to track the funding.
3.
Abdul Khan, father of Pakistan’s nuclear program, based part of his operations in UAE warehouses in Dubai from which centrifuges used to enrich uranium were shipped to Libya and Iran.
4.
The UAE publicly beheads Christians who lead Muslims to Christ.
5.
Are we to turn over U.S. port operations to a government-owned UAE company? No, turning over any ports to Dubai Ports World is ill-advised: the potential for greater terrorist infiltration is just too great.
6.
And last, and perhaps of the most importance is this: The murder and maiming of over 3000 people is reason enough not to allow a Middle Eastern Muslim-owned company to control six of America’s major ports. Hundreds of those who died on September 11 were never found; their remains lie at the bottom of the cavernous cavity that was the World Trade Center in New York.

I do not support your plan to allow U.S. ports to be sold to a Shiite-controlled country. America is a target for terrorists worldwide. Only ten percent of all cargo coming into the U.S. is currently inspected; we must not make ourselves even more vulnerable. The American public already fears that our ports are not properly protected.
Mr. President, some of the 9/11 hijackers used the UAE as an “operational and financial base.” The UAE has also been a transfer point for shipments of smuggled nuclear components to Iran, North Korea and Libya. Please don’t increase our vulnerability by allowing Dubai Ports to gain a foothold in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.
I implore you today to sign legislation presented by Congress to halt this sale.
