allmediascotland : Donaldson’s Pupil Selected for Deaf Football World Championships
Colm Maguire (16), a pupil at Donaldson’s School in Linlithgow, has been selected to play for the Irish Deaf Football Team in the first ever World Deaf Football Championships in Greece this June/July. Following the team’s close call draw in a friendly match against Scotland this weekend, Colm has now set his sights on helping his team to glory in the first major deaf football championship of its kind.
Colm is one of a winning team at Donaldson’s, Scotland’s grant aided special school for children who are deaf or have speech and language difficulties. He and his team mates recently triumphed at the National Deaf Schools Football Tournament for the third time in a row, confirming them as true champions. The team of secondary school pupils comprised: Andrew Calder (captain), Douglas Law, Ruaridh Lever-Hogg, Steven Norris, Martyn Griffiths, Lee Humphrey, Louise Bell and, of course, Colm himself. Football talent runs in Colm’s family. His father, James, was a former player for Ireland in international games and competed in two Deaf Olympics, and his younger brother Connor (13), also qualified for the Schools Tournament, but had to withdraw due to injury.
