Do Society Hate Smart People?

I am a nerd, obviously. Yeah, I get made fun of, but they have issues, so I'm not too worried about it.

Nothing wrong with being a nerd, there are times when I am nerdy because I like gadgets:giggle:

Why the stereotypes of smart people? Seems that being smart is being given the thumbs down by mainstream society and all the while they use their cell phones, ipods, computers that has been created by smart people, yet show no appreciation towards men like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.

Go figure.....

Yiz

Maybe they need a type of people to poke fun at. We can't poke fun at fat people as it does hurt them. Black people is out as it is racism. Ditto for other types like asian, jewish, etc.

As for me, I don't hate smart people. I just dislike those who are unethical. Bill Gates stole Mac's GUI therefore I don't like Bill Gates. After watching "Pirates of Silicon Valley", I don't like Steve Jobs for refusing his illigetimate daughter in the beginning. It seems to me that those in business are out to steal something from another business.

I love smart people! But prefer they be humble, too. Hell, I've learned so much during this lifetime from smart people who took the time and patience to teach me.

My son, is called a "nerd". It bothered him for awhile. Still, he "hangs" with other kids sometimes that are not as smart, and do they learn from him? I believe they do. And he learns from them, also.

Knowledge is power....and kudos to those who share it.

One thing that does get my goat, tho'. Some hearies don't wanna believe deafies "know more than they do about something." God forbid that!....I've been asked, even insulted...."How do you know? You can't hear."!....Or being introduced to someone, and they say..."This is ------, she/he is deaf but is educated."....Say what?

Oh! I'd be ticked off if people treated me like that. I'm sure it ticks you off to no end.

One thing that I've learned over the years is that I can have friends for different reasons. I have my girlfriends for "girl talk." I have friends who enjoy talking about politics or science. I have friends who are Harry Potter freaks. I have different facets of my personality so I have an eclectic group of friends. It would be boring if we were all exactly alike.

I was considered a "smart girl" in high school and that was hard at the time. Now, I'm more confident about who I am. I'm proud to be a nerd.

"Hate" is a strong word for this usage.
I would say more of envy. They do hate it when it is flaunted in their faces.

I'm a Civil War buff. I've yet to successfully drag any of my friends off for the reinactment of the battle of Gettysburg.

That's right, I'm a black, female Civil War buff. Take a picture of me now cuz i'm about as rare as seeing Bigfoot do the two step on the White House lawn. :P

take me to reenactment! I've always wanted to see it! when's the next one?

Oh, civil war nerd! I'm certified to teach secondary history and my emphasis was history of the South. The old dude who taught the civil war acted like he was there. LOL! Love the reproduction weapons and reenactments!

There were black men who fought. There were women who fought while hiding their gender. A black woman? Maybe. I'd love that! Anything that breaks stereotypes is good.

I've been in love with Sojourner Truth ever since I read her writing.
