The Sun Online - News: Disabled lad killed by dad
A DESPAIRING dad who drowned his disabled baby in a mercy killing was yesterday detained in a mental hospital.
A court heard that deaf mute Andreas Milakovic, 38, sank into a deep depression over his boy Yacob’s severe disability.
The 14-month-old tot endured 40 agonising fits a day, was blind, deaf and mute and had a brain disorder that would eventually prove fatal.
Caring for him became unbearable for social worker Milakovic, of Norton Lees, Sheffield — so he drugged Yacob with Calpol and wine before drowning him.
Milakovic then drank a litre of vodka and lay in a bath of water in a suicide attempt.
He and the dead baby were found by Yacob’s mum, Sharon Hirschman.
Milakovic later told police in sign language: “I wanted Yacob’s suffering to stop. I didn’t know what else to do.”
He admitted manslaughter through diminished responsibility at a previous hearing at Sheffield Crown Court.
