Detox is either alcohol or drug abuse, where you go to a facility for a certain amount of time and get your body cleaned of the substance that the body is hooked on.
Where as with your Mother in law. Is she in a nursing home because she can no longer take care of herself? My mother had dementia which is a stage lower than Alzheimer's. She would become confused, couldn't get her facts straight, forgot things, couldn't finish her sentences. Then it was getting worse where she would fall so many times, and it so hard to get her up. She had terrible mood swings. She would be happy one minute, crying the next and then become angry. Her short term memory was gone, but, her long term memory was still intact. Where she would talk about going out with her Mom for rides, seeing her brothers and sisters. They all passed away years ago. But, she remembered all these things.
We as her family, had to be very patient with them, go along with whatever she said. because if we didn't, she would become angry. There were times she didn't want to eat, she actually gave up on herself. So we had no choice but to put her in a nursing home where she would get 24 hour round the clock care. It was a better place for her, and the staff loved her. Mom was deaf, the hard part was the staff didn't sign, so they would gesture, and once Mom got used to them, she would better understand them.
So, if this is what is happening with your Mother in law? Be very patient with her, show her all the love you can, put plenty of pictures in her room of the family, go along with everything she says even if it doesn't make any sense. Be there for her, support her.
This is a very tough illness to see anyone go through. I will keep you in my prayers. I pray your Mother in law will be comfortable. Make her laugh when you can, keep her smiling, and always hold her hand, stroke her face, kiss her on the cheek, hug her. This is what they need. Always tell her you love her all the time.
I wish you all God's blessings everyday to keep you all strong to get through this terrible illness. Take care of yourselves!!
