THREE local deaf young people have presented a video to the Welsh Assembly's Petitions Committee.
Leam Tucker, 13, Caitlin Dando, 14, and Ryan Payne, 12, who all attend St Cyres school in Penarth, also appear as some of the experts in the video, which was created by the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) Cymru.
Presented in the Senedd of May 7, it highlights that many deaf pupils in Wales are facing barriers preventing them from reaching their full potential.
The importance of access to support from specialist professionals, of good classroom acoustics, and of ensuring that more teachers and pupils know how to communicate with deaf people were all raised as vital issues.
The petition is being launched during Deaf Awareness Week.
Local lad, Ryan, said: "I wanted to help out with creating the video to make more people deaf aware."
Jayne Dulson, Director of NDCS Cymru, said that with appropriate support, deaf pupils can achieve the same as others.
"We are so grateful to all the young people who helped us create our video petition," she said. "As deaf young people themselves, they are the experts and are best placed to tell politicians about the things that schools need to get right for deaf pupils."
