I am an Interpreting student in Texas, currently in Interpreting II class and I have an assignment I need some help on. Would you like to take pity on a lowly student and help her become a better interpreter?
My assignment is to "Interview" as many Deaf consumers with the following questions, thank you so much for being willing to help me out. I really want to be a good interpreter and provide good service. Feel free to answer some or all the questions.

What are your pet peeves about interpreting?
What do you like about interpreters?
What's a struggle you have gone through that you had to overcome?
What was your worst experience with an interpreter?
Who should explain the role of the interpreter?
How are you involved in the deaf community?
How do you feel about cochlear implants?
What is your family background? Other Deaf family members? Was ASL your first or second language?
What was your schooling like?
Do you tend to socialize more with Deaf or hearing friends?
How do you communicate with your hearing friends?
What is your biggest pet peeve about the hearing culture and how they interact with people?
What is your least favorite question from hearing people about sign language/deafness?
If you could invent something to help the Deaf community what's something you would create (what do you see that needs to be created?)?
Are your parents Deaf or hearing? Family? Did they learn to sign with you if they were hearing?
How do you feel about cochlear implants and their effect on the Deaf community?
What was your early educational experience and how did you feel about it?
When working with an interpreter, do you prefer that the interpreter explains their role to the hearing audience or do you prefer to explain how that works? Why do you prefer that option?
In what situations do you prefer to use an interpreter?
If you could tell interpreting students one thing, what pearl of wisdom would you share?
Thank you again for taking the time!
