Radio New Zealand - Deaf teen still critical after hit and run incident
A deaf teenage girl from Ngaruawahia remains in a critical condition after a hit and run incident on New Year's Eve.
An Auckland man, 17, has been charged with drunk driving in relation to the incident and the police say further charges are pending.
Pikimene Muru, 16, was left lying on the road with serious head injuries after being hit by a van.
The driver will appear in court later this month.
Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says he's unsure what contribution her hearing difficulties may have made to the incident - he says her hearing aid was not operating at the time.
