Deaf teen on bike hit by car | Fox10tv.com
Alabama State Troopers say a 13-year-old boy was hit by a car Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. in Baldwin County.
It was a scary afternoon for one Summerdale family.
"Had a 13-year-old male that was riding his bike east on county road 38. As he was riding a vehicle was approaching him from behind and for some reason the boy turned into the road and the vehicle couldn't stop in time," said Trooper Greg Eubanks.
Eubanks said the teenager, Percy D. Simpson, is hearing impaired. Brothers Leon and James Johnson live on county road 38, and arrived on the scene shortly after the accident happened.
"I saw the mustang off to the side of the road and I saw a bicycle in front of the car. I saw the windshield caved in. I told my brother, he just hit that youngin'," said Johnson.
Simpson was life-flighted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
The Johnson brothers said the road is dangerous. Ironically, just days before the accident, they had called to report cars speeding up and down the road.
Leon Johnson said even if speed weren't a factor in this accident, and so far, troopers haven't determined a cause, people have got to be aware of what's going on.
"I hope something good will be done. I'm so sorry the kid was hurt but I hope the outcome, something will be done so no one else gets hurt," Leon Johnson said.
They hope the accident brings to light how quickly things can go bad.
Simpson is listed in guarded condition. Guarded condition is better than serious or critical, but not as good as stable condition.
