Thursday was Ranger Day at the Texas School for the Deaf.
It's a chance for students to meet all the people they've been learning about all year long. The school mascot is the ranger.
Police, SWAT team members, firefighters, sheriff's deputies, police dogs, even a police boat assembled at the school on South Congress Avenue.
There were obstacle courses to run and opportunities to try on equipment.
Different agencies made monthly presentations at the school all year. Teachers say this is a great way for the students to get a clear understanding of the jobs those people have.
"I can't believe how much our students have been able to understand community helpers and their roles. Many of the kids didn't realize that the police have special units for each of the different police units," Avonne Brooker-Rutowski, of TSD, said.
The Texas School for the Deaf is also celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
