The fate of about 100 children with hearing impairment who wanted to go to school is hanging in the balance because they cannot get admission into the school for the deaf.
Authorities of the Cape Coast School for the Deaf say the facilities in the school cannot accommodate all the students who apply to the school.
The one hundred students are therefore on a waiting list until God-knows-when.
Joy FM’s Richard Kojo Nyarko discovered this when he accompanied the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education on a visit to the school.
The school has a population of 400 students, some of who are day students.
Commenting on the issue, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Beatrice Bernice Boateng, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education said the situation was depressing.
She told Joy FM's Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah that it was regrettable such vulnerable children – who hitherto found it difficult to agree to accept to go to school – were being denied the opportunity to study.
Ms Boateng said the headmaster of the school is being prevailed upon to find a away of absorbing the students.
