Artwork created by deaf students, as well as work by their deaf teacher, will be on display starting tonight in Battle Creek.
The students' Deaf View Image Art, or De'VIA, exhibit opens tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Community Inclusive Recreation's Et Cetera Art Studio, 157 Capital Ave. N.E. The artwork will be on display through June. Call 788-6653.
The students were instructed by Chuck Baird, a nationally-known artist who was born deaf and has taught at schools for the deaf around the country.
An exhibition of Baird’s pieces will open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Art Center of Battle Creek, 265 E. Emmett St., and continue until May 27. Call 962-9511.
On Saturday, Baird will present “De’VIA, According to Chuck,” a lecture on his artwork and his thoughts on the De'VIA genre, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Miller-Stone Auditorium, 77 Capital Ave. N.E. Call 968-8166.
