In light of the controversy over vouchers and school funding, we’d like to thank the Madison School District, specifically the staffs at Glendale, Sennett and La Follette, as well as Madison School Community Recreation staff for their services.

Our deaf/hard-of-hearing daughter will graduate from high school in a few weeks and attend a Big Ten university in the fall. Over the past 15 years, the district and MSCR provided her with the support she needed to achieve in mainstream classes and participate in sports, clubs and enrichment programs, just like her peers.

For those who question the cost to the district, be assured she is giving back to the community, both as a volunteer and as a working teen.

Private schools can choose who to admit and what services to provide. In contrast, public schools provide education to all. Diluting their funding would be detrimental to the community in the long run because they rely on this funding to provide quality education, no matter each student's needs.

Thanks to our public schools, our daughter has a bright future.
