A man who is deaf and mute and does not know sign language was found stabbed near California and Sonora streets, police reported.
Officers found apparent stab wounds to the hand and head of the 38-year-old man about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, police said. Because of his language barrier, the victim was unable to provide information about the attack.
He was in stable condition at San Joaquin General Hospital. Police said an anonymous caller described the attacker as a woman 18 to 20 years old, with long, black hair and wearing a white shirt and brown pants.
