BUTUAN CITY – Five suspects in the alleged gang rape of a 21-year-old deaf mute girl at the back of a public school last Saturday surrendered to police yesterday in Barangay Tungao, this city.
Senior Superintendent Ramon C. Espiritu, Butuan Police City Office (BPCO) director, identified the suspects as Jerry T. Decatoria, 41; John Mark S. Lahinao, 20; Ariel B. Guyo, 19; Eduardo C. Vallar, 20; and a 15-year-old boy, all residents of Purok 15 Sagrada, Barangay Tungao, here.
The victim, identified by police only as “Alina” (not her real name), was reportedly gang-raped behind the Tungao Central Elementary School in Barangay Tungao at around 8 p.m.
Initial medical findings supported the claim as the victim was found to have deep healed lacerations in her genitalia.
Espiritu said it was Alina's mother who identified the suspects to police and that, soon after, they surrendered through barangay officials but refused to give any statement to police as of yet. They are now detained pending investigation.
